DM Airport Guard Slaps Chinese Tourist

BANGKOK – OH SNAP or more like Smack, airport guard hauls off and cracks a Chinese tourist upside the head. Oh wait no, just got ready to. Tourist says guard demanded a tip, which he denies.

A security guard at Don Mueang airport has come under fire after a video clip showing him trying to hit a Chinese tourist in the face at the airport went viral. The incident, recorded by another Chinese tourist, happened inside the airport on Thursday. It was later posted on Facebook and drew criticism against the attacker.

Phuket Central Plaza Volcano Burns

PHUKET – Doh, you’re doing it wrong Mr welding guy.  Central Floresta mock volcano was supposed to appear as if on fire, -not actually burn itself and half the exhibition space. Note to self, don’t hire this guy for electrical work.

One of Central Floresta’s new themed feature attractions has been totally guttered today in a dramatic fire that started just after opening time this morning.

The ‘Tribhum’ attraction, a walk-thru theme park, scheduled to open before the end of the year, burnt fiercely as the outer skin of the ‘volcano’ caught fire and kept burning until it was all gone.

Fire crews and emergency responders rushed to the new shopping centre where shoppers where evacuated to safety. At no time, however, were any shoppers in danger. Luckily the amusement hadn’t opened and there were no guests using the facility at the time.

Immigration Police to monitor Buriram Moto GP

Heads up to anyone floating around the Buriram area planning on going to the race, or being anywhere near there on overstay or undocumented status.  Immigration police will be there in droves and have targeted the airport as the main checkpoint.  With a new immigration chief, look for news of some busts.

DSI Files 16 Court Cases ref Fake Bomb Scanners

(From ThaiPBS) BANGKOK: The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) announced on Friday that the department has filed 16 court cases related to the procurement of GT200 scanners by governmental agencies against the Thai distributor of the UK-made devices.

The statement was issued after the Don Meuang District Court on Wednesday found the Thai distributor of the fake scanners, Avia Satcom, and its executive, Mr Sitthiwat Wattakit, guilty of fraud and sentenced him to nine years imprisonment and a fine of 18,000 baht.

DSI said in the statement that it had investigated all the complaints filed by governmental and provincial units which bought the GT200 bomb and narcotic drug scanners from Avia Satcom.

All the devices were tested and they found to be completely ineffective in detecting bombs or narcotic drugs as claimed by the distributor and its manufacturer, UK-based Global Technical, said the DSI.

Phuket Toy Car Drug Bust Nets 40,000 Meth Pills

PHUKET: Police have arrested three suspects, including a Thai-British man, who were found with 39,820 methamphetamine (ya bah) pills hidden in toy remote-controlled cars that were delivered to Phuket from Bangkok by a private parcel delivery service.

Phuket Provincial Police investigators announced the news at a press conference at the Phuket Provincial Police headquarters in Phuket Town this afternoon (Sept 28).

In making the arrests, police seized 39,820 ya bah pills, 18.8 grams of crystal meth (ya ice), 180mg of heroin, a BMW car, a Nissan March, a Mitsubishi sedan, two bankbooks and two gold necklaces – altogether valued at B1.23 million, police said.

The suspects arrested were named as Thai nationals Thipparat ‘Koi’ Prompramoon, 29, and Udom ‘Ae’ Rattanamanee, 44, and John Mark Vickers, 29, a Thai national of Thai-British parentage who goes by the nickname ‘Jonny’.

Police today explained that following their investigation, officers from the Phuket Provincial Police arrested Pongsak ‘Bear’ Kaewsuksai, 33, from Nakhon Sri Thammarat, on Monday (Sept 24) after he was found in possession of 119 ya bah pills.

Big Joke Tapped as Immigration Chief

Bangkok Post: Pol Maj Gen Surachate ‘Big Joke’ Hakparn was approved Thursday to become the next chief of the Immigration Bureau, with an automatic promotion to the three-star rank of lieutenant-general.

Deputy tourist police chief Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn is tipped to become the new Immigration Bureau (IB) commissioner in the upcoming annual police reshuffle.

The Police Service Commission held a meeting Thursda to deliberate the reshuffle list involving officers in positions ranging from commanders to deputy commissioners general. The two-hour meeting was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon, linked by the public to Pol Maj Gen Surachate and his rapid career rises.
