CHUMPHON: A wild elephant calf named “Ai Duan” by locals in the area, has been rescued from a muddy swamp area below a very steep cliff which it is said to have fallen from.

Vetrinarians arrived quickly to administer first aid to the pachydern, and locals brought fruit and grass to visit the calf, -despite the fact it was well known to invade their farmland.

The bull elephant, aged around 2 years, was spotted lying in a muddy swamp at the foot of a mountain in Ban Chan Rane of tambon Tako on Friday by a patrol team of national park and wildlife officials.

The calf appeared to have suffered back injuries and was struggling hard to lift itself from the swamp, about 3-4 metres wide and 60-70cm deep. The animal was believed to have fallen from the steep mountain

1-2 days ago before it was found. The officials immediately called the Ngao Waterfall National Park, Thai media reported.

 

HAT YAI – Police have ruled that the death of a female Chinese national is a murder after forensic discovery that she had been hit several times with a blunt object.

A taxi driver has also spoken up about witnessing the deceased pointing out a specific male as she arrived at the location, which gave the driver the impression she knew the man.

A suspect has been detained and interviewed and police are discussing the matter with Chinese consular officials as the case widens back to the mainland.

A security guard at Don Mueang airport has come under fire after a video clip showing him trying to hit a Chinese tourist in the face at the airport went viral. The incident, recorded by another Chinese tourist, happened inside the airport on Thursday. It was later posted on Facebook and drew criticism against the attacker.

Heads up to anyone floating around the Buriram area planning on going to the race, or being anywhere near there on overstay or undocumented status.  Immigration police will be there in droves and have targeted the airport as the main checkpoint.  With a new immigration chief, look for news of some busts.

(From ThaiPBS) BANGKOK: The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) announced on Friday that the department has filed 16 court cases related to the procurement of GT200 scanners by governmental agencies against the Thai distributor of the UK-made devices.

The statement was issued after the Don Meuang District Court on Wednesday found the Thai distributor of the fake scanners, Avia Satcom, and its executive, Mr Sitthiwat Wattakit, guilty of fraud and sentenced him to nine years imprisonment and a fine of 18,000 baht.

DSI said in the statement that it had investigated all the complaints filed by governmental and provincial units which bought the GT200 bomb and narcotic drug scanners from Avia Satcom.

All the devices were tested and they found to be completely ineffective in detecting bombs or narcotic drugs as claimed by the distributor and its manufacturer, UK-based Global Technical, said the DSI.
