CHIANG MAI: 5 top officers at Chang Phueak police station have been transferred to inactive posts following a rad on a gambling parlor in downtown Chiang Mai, in which 93 citizens were nabbed Friday night. The size of the operation was substantial in that 50 men and 43 women were arrested inside a house on Soi Patan 9. An inquiry panel has been set up to determine if the police were negligent in their duty. More here from Bangkok Post.
Thailand Moto GP Starts Today in Buriram
BURIRAM: The PTT Thailand Moto GP 2018 starts today in Buriram, and will run through Sunday October 7th. The deal for running the GP runs 3 years with the Buriram United International Circuit and is expected to add to the already 1 million plus MotoGP fans in Thailand. 319 Foreigners Arrested Nationwide On Visa Charges
BANGKOK: In a major move, 319 foreigners were arrested on various immigration charges including overstay. The new ACTING Immigration Bureau Chief released details and noted that the “Show Money” scam so prevalent among most of the long-stay expats here may come to a swift and rude end as he targeted two immigration staff and reassigned them to new posts while under investigation for cooperating in “show money” efforts. He noted that the “one-day” 400,000THB bank account deposit transactions would be “very easy to spot” and that he would see to it that they were ended. More here at Bangkok Post.
Maya Bay Alternates Floated to angry tour agencies
ANDAMAN SEA: In a move seen to be an attempt to placate angry tourists (more likely angry tour operators) the counrty’s National Parks officials presented options to choose from three other equally attractive options in which to ruin by way of over-use and unplanned means. Now Pileh Bay, Loh Moo Dee Bay, and Koh Hong have all been listed, which is sure to lead to a few interesting follow on news stories of intrigue in the land grabbing scheme of things. Wasp attack kills 2 at forest meditation retreat
TRANG: In another incident showing the fatal dangers of stinging insects here, a child and his mother have died from stings which took place after the wasp nest was blown from a tree during construction at a meditation center. The monk leading the meditation center has promised to call a meeting of the monastery committee to discuss the best way to get rid of the wasps inhabiting the compound. More here at Bangkok Post.
Yingluck Ends Defamation Case Against Dems
BANGKOK: Former PM Yingluck Shinwatra ended her legal case of defamation today against three former Democrat Party MPs who she accused of impugning her in 2012 with sexist remarks. The strategy behind the move is likely related to the fact their political careers would have been ended if the case would have proceeded to the Supreme Court, -where, out of all the odd logic, they would then actually have grounds to counter-sue her for loss of career.
